Madame Foster was originally a basic 70-year-old woman who owned a very expensive house. Due to her being the only one living in the home, she decided that she wanted to turn it into a new home, for forgotten imaginary friends, and many were sent in, creating Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends - where good ideas are not forgotten.

During the movie, the friends adapt to their current behaviors.

Due to the movie gaining critical acclaim, it created the potential for many different stories to be told. By December, Paramount, Fox, and WB were developing many different spin-offs due to the success of the film.

  • Wilt serves as the main protagonist of the film, due to Bloo joining the home in 1997.
  • The SML characters have major roles rather than being just cameos.
  • Unlike the film trilogy, this film is fully animated.
