The first season of BlooJ's Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends began airing on The Bloo DeTour and Nick at Nite on August 11, 2000 and concluded after 23 episodes on April 27, 2001. The executive producers for the first production season were Bloo J, Matthew Chaudhary, Stephen Hillenburg, Brad Bird, Trey Parker, and John Kricfalusi.

The show was conceived by Bloo J in 1995 following the controversy of the Firey episode "The Bleep", which was criticized by critics and parents who interpreted the episode as an example of promoting and implicitly satirizing use of profanity towards children, leading to the creation of BlooJ's Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. Bloo J pitched a seven-minute pilot to The Bloo in 1999, and the show was greenlit and began production.

All 23 episodes of the season, including extras such as the early pitch reel from 1998, were released on DVD on November 12, 2002 in Region 1 and September 24, 2003 in Regions 2 and 4. The series has since been released in syndication.

Production

In February 1995, an episode of The Bloo's hit series Firey titled "The Bleep" was criticized by critics and parents who interpreted the episode as an example of promoting and implicitly satirizing use of profanity towards children. The controversy over the episode is generally considered the catalyst that sparked the creation of BlooJ's Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. Executives at MTV saw the episode and contracted Bloo J to create an adult animated series, entitled BlooJ's Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, with the idea originating 9 years earlier. Most of the Firey team were given duties for BlooJ's Foster's Home for Imaginary FriendsCraig Kellman retained his duties as art director; Craig McCracken retained his lead character design role; Phil Ortiz had his background and prop design role; along with Salene Weatherwax, the latter having a prop design role during the first four seasons.

Reception

The first season of BlooJ's Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends received positive reviews from critics.
